While visiting Hong Kong, Derek and I had the opportunity to visit my mother's old stomping ground. In fact, we even had the honor of running into one of her former teachers. It was great to picture my mom as one of these young girls goofing around with her classmates. However, my Aunt (who attended the same school--just on a different campus) informed me that their uniforms were much cuter and more fashionable back in the day. I wouldn't expect anything less.
Get off the bus! A term coined on our 2006 quarter-life-crisis Spring Break vacation in Puerto Aventuras, Mex.
On a sprinkling morning, 5 of us spring breakers ventured into Playa del Carmen. After some exploring & Coronas, night set in as did the looming storms. We meandered to the bus station, purchasing 5 return tickets back to Puerto Aventuras.
On the bus, Derek & I met our inspiration: Michael, the Canadian importer/exporter. Backpack in hand, he had arrived in Playa earlier that day. With no plans or reservations, all that was confirmed was his ticket from Costa Rica back to Canada 3 months later.
That was when the 5 of us got inspired and got off the bus--pushing our way from the back of the packed vehicle, freeing ourselves onto the rain soaked Playa streets.
The evening was filled with 1980s jams, dancing in the rain & adventure.
The best fun is unplanned fun.
Derek & I have said that if the occasion was to arise, we would jump on the next bus to adventure. But after getting off the bus, we decided to take the plunge & create our own portal to adventure. And so here we are, a hemisphere away from home...
